MUSC 131
CONCERT BAND
MUSC131. Concert Band
Three hours rehearsal (1).
Emphasis on study and performance of a wide variety of band literature. Concerts presented each year on campus and on tour. Open to qualified students. May be taken again for credit.
The Concert Band rehearses and performs quality original wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions. Although comprised of many non-music majors, music majors--particularly music education majors--gain valuable exposure and insights to the basic college and high school band repertory.
1. Seating Placement Auditions
2. Rehearsal preparation of works to be performed. Preparation includes listening to recordings when appropriate and gaining some added insight about the composer and music through lecture and/ore discussion.
3. Performance (typically 2 or 3 per semester)
At the conclusion of the course, the student will have rehearsed and performed the highest quality wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions under the Director of Bands, guest conductors and student conductors. Students (including many non-music majors) will have broadened their repertory, improved their technical expertise and sense of ensemble.
Grades are based upon individual part preparation, performance execution and strict adherence to a clearly stated attendance policy.
