Minutes December 5, 2003

I. Minutes from November 21st were approved.
II. New Proposals for Committee to review
A. Information Technology
ITEC.01 – New Course
1. To create a new course; ITEC 400 – Foundations of Computer Science to support the new curriculum for the Information Technology (IT) concentration in the MSED program. This course will act as a precursor to Masters level coursework.
2. Proposal was supported but not unanimously and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
B. Geography
GEOG.01 – Course Prerequisite Change/Course Title Change/Minor Change to Course
1. To change the course title of GEOG 412 from Advanced Cartography to Advanced Geoprocessing and to add GEOG 410 – Advanced GIS to the prerequisite list for course.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.02 – Course Prerequisite Change/Change to Catalog Description/Course Number Change/Course Syllabi Change
1. Add BIOL 121 to possible prerequisite for course to reflect changes in Biology department. Change course number from GEOG 303 to GEOG 336 to better reflect order in which course should be taken, and changes to course description and the syllabi to unify geography research themes and to make urban ecology more visible in the course.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval
GEOG.03 – Change to Catalog Description/Course Title Change/Course Syllabi Change
1. Change course name from Map Interpretation to intro to Geospatial Data and to also alter the catalog description and syllabi to better reflect minor changes in the course.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.04 – Change to Catalog Description/Course Title Change/Course Syllabi Change
1. Change course title from Remote Sensing and Digital Imaging to Digital Image Processing and to change the course description to include another aspect that is pertinent in the course content. Note that syllabi needs slight change of course number from GEOG100 to GEOG 130.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.05 – Course Title Change/Minor Change to Course
1. Change course title from GIS I to Introduction to GIS for sequencing of courses.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.06 – Change to Catalog Description
1. To alter the course description to simplify who is required to take the course.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.07 – Course Number Change/Minor Change to Course
1. To change the course number of GEOG 100 to GEOG 130 due to the fact that many majors take the course after the 101, 102 and/or 103 courses and many students see it as a course to fulfill the Area 8 requirement, which it in fact does not. This change will align the course with other advanced courses.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.08 – Course Prerequisite Change
1. To add GEOG 140 – Introduction to Environmental Studies, or permission of instructor to the prerequisite list for GEOG 241 – Environmental Regulation.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.09 – Course Deletion(s)
1. To delete GEOG 240 – Focus Seminar, GEOG 312 – Introduction to Cartography, GEOG 323 – Urban Environment, and GEOG 481 – Conservation of Natural Resources.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.10 – New Course
1. To create GEOG 210 – Perspectives in Geography to expand upon an already available course. Unable to use 210 because of use in past five years. Suggestion of 211 instead, was ok for department. So course number will be 211 instead of 210.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.11 – New Course
1. To create GEOG 361 – Public Lands for the purpose of offering a course related to the history, planning, and management of federal public lands.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.12 – Course Prerequisite Change
1. To change the prerequisites for GEOG 314 – Digital Cartography from GEOG 312 to GEOG 225 because GEOG 312 is being dropped from the available curriculum.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.13 – Course Prerequisite Change
1. To add the prerequisites of GEOG 140 – Introduction to Environmental Studies or permission of instructor to GEOG 340 – International Environmental Problems.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.14 – Program Revision
1. Restructuring the Geography Departments core requirements with noted change of proposed course GEOG 210 to be renumbered GEOG 211 per proposal GEOG.04.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.15 – Program Revision
1. Revision of General Concentration requirements.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.16 – Program Revision
1. Revision of Environmental Studies Concentration requirements. Conditional approval was supported pending receipt of current misplaced proposal concerning course GEOG 410 which was not received by the UGCCRC. Said proposal is a request to change the current course name, which is reflected in the program revision mentioned.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.17 – Program Revision
1. Revision of Planning Concentration requirements. Conditional approval was supported pending receipt of current misplaced proposal concerning course GEOG 410 which was not received by the UGCCRC. Said proposal is a request to change the current course name, which is reflected in the program revision mentioned.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.
GEOG.18 – Program Revision
1. Revision of Technical Concentration requirements. Conditional approval was supported pending receipt of current misplaced proposal concerning course GEOG 410 which was not received by the UGCCRC. Said proposal is a request to change the current course name, which is reflected in the program revision mentioned. This proposal is also pending of receipt of a General Education Committee signature sheet of approval for creation of course.
2. Proposal was supported and forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval.

1. To change course syllabi for the following courses: MATH 152, 151, 200, 251, 252, 325, 403, 412, and 423.

MATH/STAT.12 – Course Deletion
1. To delete the following courses: STAT 205:206, 208:209, and 211 with the intension to offer one introductory course in their place.
2. Proposals were sent to General Education Committee simultaneously for approval
3. Proposals were supported pending the endorsement of the General Education Committee and will be forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval upon receipt of the appropriate signature sheets.
MATH/STAT.13 – New Course
1. To create STAT 200 to replace deletions from proposal .10 - .12.
2. Proposals were sent to the General Education Committee simultaneously for approval
3. Proposal was supported pending the endorsement of the General Education Committee and will forwarded to Dr. Self for final approval upon receipt of the appropriate signature sheets.
