Undergraduate Curriculum and Catalog Review Committee
Minutes November 6, 2001

I. Review of proposals that were approved on October 30, pending clarification (PHED/ESHE # 20-29).
A. Dr. Zeakes provided clarification and the appropriate adjustments were indicated on the proposals.
B. The minutes for the October 30 meeting were held to incorporate the needed clarifications and will be made available for approval at the next meeting.
II. Proposals Reviewed
A. Physical and Health Education
1. PHED (ESHE). 30 – New Course: ESHE 364, Pre-Professional Fieldwork in ESHE. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
2. PHED (ESHE). 31 – New Course: ESHE 212, Introduction to Sport Management. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
3. PHED (ESHE). 32 – New Course: ESHE 305, Principles and Practice of Strength and Conditioning. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
4. PHED (ESHE). 33 – New Course: ESHE 310, Multicultural Self Defense Education. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
5. PHED (ESHE). 34 – New Course: ESHE 315, Physical Activity and Aging. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
6. PHED (ESHE). 35 – New Course: ESHE 415, Sport Administration. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
7. PHED (ESHE). 36 – New Course: ESHE 350, Sport and Exercise Psychology. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
8. PHED (ESHE). 37 – Program Revision: Revision of ESHE Core Requirements. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
9. PHED (ESHE). 38 – Program Revision: Revision of the Teaching Concentration to include a name change to The Physical and Health Education Concentration, and a revision to the general content area. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
10. PHED (ESHE). 39 – Program Revision: Revision of the Commercial Fitness Concentration to include a name change to Sport and Wellness Leadership (SWL) Concentration, as well as a revision to the existing option; Corporate and Commercial Fitness, and the addition of a new option called Sports Administration. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
11. PHED (ESHE). 40 – Program Revision: Revision of the Sports Medicine Concentration to include a name change to Exercise and Sport Science (ESS) Concentration, as well as a revision to the existing option; Sports Medicine, and the addition of a new option called Exercise and Sport Studies. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
12. PHED (ESHE). 41 – Program Revision: Revision of all ESHE Minors. Revision includes renaming of two minors, the deletion of one and the addition of two new minors. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
13. PHED (ESHE). 42– Program Revision: Revised Concentration: Athletic Training Education. Proposal tabled by UGCCRC until the department provides all supporting proposals.
B. Foreign Languages and Literatures
1. FORL.01 – New Course and Program Revision: LATN 350 is proposed as a replacement for LATN 202 along with LATN 410, LATN 420, LATN 430, and LATN 440. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
2. FORL.02 – Course Deletions: With the above adoption of LATN 350, the following courses are to be deleted: LATN 202, LATN 410, LATN 420, LATN 430, and LATN 440. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
3. FORL.03 – Course Prerequisite Change: The pre-requisite for LATN 460 will now be LATN 350. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
4. FORL.04 – Course Prerequisite Change and Catalog Course Description: The prerequisite for LATN 315 will now be LATN 350. Also, the reference to the Latin major in the course description in the catalog will be deleted. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
C. Foods and Nutrition
1. FDSN.01 – New Course: FDSN 420, Professional Culinary Arts. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
2. FDSN.02 – New Course: FDSN 428, Professional Beverage Management. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
3. FDSN.03 – Program Revision: The Foodservice Management program added two additional courses to their curriculum and the ACCT 203 requirement has been changed to ACCT 211 & 212. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.
III. Other Discussion
A. Large number of proposals received that still need reviewed.
1. The UGCCR Committee will continue to review all proposals. However, for expediencies sake, the Registrar will be the deciding authority for proposals that indicate only minor changes, with the understanding that the Committee may elect to discuss any of the proposals and make revisions as deemed appropriate.
