I.                    Proposals Reviewed

 

A.     Minor Changes

 

1.      Music

a.      MUSC.31 – Catalog Change.  Change catalog course description of MUSC 453 from “Rehearsal and performance of chamber music literature from duo sonatas to nonets for strings, winds, mixed strings and winds with or without piano.  Open to qualified students.  Chamber groups must be formed in advance of registration with consented of instructor.  May be taken again for credit” to “Rehearsal and performance of chamber music literature from duos to nonets for strings, winds, pianos, mixed strings and winds with or without piano.  Open to qualified students.  Chamber groups must be formed in advance of registration with consented of instructor.  May be taken again for credit.” Proposal supported by the UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

B.     Major Changes

 

1.      Media Studies

 

a.       MSTD.09 – Program Revision. (Previously tabled.) Creation of a new Web Design Concentration in the Department of Media Studies.  Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

b.      MSTD.12 – Program Revision.  (Previously tabled.) Creation of a new Web Design Minor in the Department of Media Studies.  Proposal supported by the UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

c.       MSTD.13 – Course Prerequisite, Catalog Description and Credit Hour Change.  (Previously tabled.) Change prerequisites for MSTD 450 Practicum to include all courses within a given concentration, change credit value from variable 1-3 credits to three credits, and add a fourth section to accommodate the Web Design concentration. Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

2.      Foreign Languages and Literatures

 

a.      FORL.05 – Course Credit Hour Change.  (Previously tabled.) Change FREN 320 from a 3 to a 4 credit hour course.  Proposal supported by the UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

b.      FORL.06 – Course Credit Hour Change.  (Previously tabled.) Change FREN 362 from a 3 to a 4 credit hour course.  Proposal supported by the UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

c.       FORL.07 – Course Credit Hour Change.  (Previously tabled.) Change FREN 451 from a 3 to a 4 credit hour course. Proposal supported by the UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

3.      Music

 

a.      MUSC.30, 31, 33 – Graduate proposals, not for the UGCCRC to review.

 

b.      MUSC. 32 – Course Prerequisite and Syllabus Change.  Change catalog description from “accompanying of instrumentalists and vocalists in rehearsals and public performances.  May be repeated for credit” to “Piano/guitar accompanying in class, applied lessons, rehearsal and public performances.” (No change of prerequisite reflected in this proposal.) Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for approval.

 

4.      Communication Sciences and Disorders

 

a.      COSD.17 – Course Title, Number, and Catalog Description Change.  Change ‘COSD 603, Speech and Language Services in the Public Schools’ to ‘COSD 403, Public School Methods in a Diverse Society.’  Add prerequisites of senior standing and COSD major.  Change course description from “a study of clinical delivery and administration of services to the communicatively disordered children and adolescents in the school setting, including current regulations and issues.  Must be taken for Virginia Teacher Certification” to “a study of clinical delivery and administration of services to the communicatively disordered children and adolescents in the culturally diverse school setting, including current regulations and issues.  Must be taken for Virginia Teacher Certification.” Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for approval.

                       

b.      COSD.18 – New Course.  COSD 401 is a new course designed to address the needs of students in the area of the neuroanatomy specific to communication disorders. COSD 401 will be cross-listed with COSD 501. Proposal supported with the understanding that an appropriate catalog description needs submitted to the Registrar.  Proposal forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

c.       COSD.19 – New Course.  COSD 422 is a new course that includes an in-depth study of sensory devices and intervention approaches for children with hearing loss. COSD 422 will be cross-listed with COSD 522. Proposal supported with the understanding that an appropriate catalog description needs submitted to the Registrar.  Proposal forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

d.      COSD.20 – Program Revision.  The new curriculum reflects a greater emphasis on technology and improved preparation for participation in graduate clinical practicum experiences.  Proposal supported by UGCCRC and forwarded to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for final approval.

 

 

II.                 Other Business

 

A.     If more proposals come in our next meeting will be held on January 22 at 8 a.m. in the Business Affairs Conference Room.
