Dr. Mekolichick earned her Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Social Psychology from Kent State University. She has been teaching Sociology since 1994 and has been at Radford University since 2001. Her teaching interests are in the areas of research methods, social psychology, and social problems. Her research interests are mainly in the areas of self and identity. She has applied this theoretical orientation to various content areas including amateur bodybuilders, undergraduate teaching and learning, and survivors and witnesses (children) of domestic violence. She enjoys conducting research collaboratively with students, is a Councilor in the national organization Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR), and her current work reflects this interest and commitment. Along with several student researchers, she is working on two community-based research projects with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia and the Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley. In addition, she has recently published an article based on this research with two students.
